Restored over 2 years by Dale Snokes workshops in California this '63 Dodge Polara is a very rare machine in the States, in the UK believed to be one of a select handful. Once the restoration was completed in 2012, the Polara went on a 6000 mile, 6 week shakedown roadtrip from Los Angeles up the coast and then across to Miami prior to shipping to the UK. The best way to deliver your car to the docks! In the UK since late 2012 and fully registered and MOTd. The current owner has used the car sparingly since in dry weather. Plenty of paperwork comes with the car, mostly from the States, including details of work carried out and invoices for parts showing the extent of restoration.
The Polara is a large car, but not extreme and suits the UK roads well. Once on the move the external dimensions seem to shrink and this is a particularly easy car to drive. Panelwork is straight and paint presents nicely, as you would expect for a 5 year old restoration. At first we weren't sure about the colour, but after sitting in on the photoshoot last week we soon realized that the light turquoise is a great choice and sets the interior off nicely too. Everyone who passed by commented favourably, people just seem to love this car.
This is a supremely relaxing car to travel in. The seats feel supportive and comfortable and there is ample room for 5 large adults to travel in comfort. The upholstery is hard-wearing and presents nicely too with minimal damage to trim. Windows are winder as opposed to troublesome early American electric items. The power hood operates seamlessly thanks to new motors at the time of restoration. The canvas was new when the car was restored 5 years ago and the rear window was recently replaced. The hood folds away neatly and doesn't spoil the lines when down. Lazy Sunday drives with the family would be a pleasure and there's plenty of room in the capacious boot to accomodate all you'd ever need for an outdoor picnic or BBQ.
According to the seller, the car starts on the button and drives beautifully. Plenty of torque from the 305hp big block V8 to waft you along with an addictive burble (listen to the cold startup in the video below). Gearchange is from the fantastic dash mounted automatic pushbutton change, making gear selection effortless. The engine has been well maintained by its garage owner and this is one of his cars that we sense is reluctantly up for sale. Engine and gearbox were rebuilt at the time of restoration in California and bills for work come with the car.
The '63 Polara convertible is a rare beast and one that is changing hands for serious money now in the States. This is the only one we've seen come to market in Europe over the last few years. In comparison to the small handful on offer in the States, this Polara is outstanding value for money. This is alot of nicely restored car and you can be sure that very few will have seen one in the flesh or ever will again. Viewing is highly recommended and the car can be inspected near Goodwood, West Susssex.
